Sukun is not simply a name above a gate. It is a promise — one made in grief, kept through purpose, and lived out in every classroom, every day.
Our Story
Every school has a founding date. Ours also has a founding reason.
A School Rooted in Old Dhaka
Our story begins with ABC International School, established in Chawkbazar, Old Dhaka, in 2005. For years it served local families with a standard English Medium education — solid, respected, and quietly growing.
A Loss, and a Promise
Some years ago, the family behind this school suffered the loss of a beloved infant son — Abdullah, now remembered among them as the bird of Jannah. Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn — to Allah we belong, and to Him we return.
Grief of that kind does not simply pass. It changes the shape of a life. Rather than let that loss end in sorrow alone, the family chose to turn it into a lasting sadaqah jariyah — a gift that would continue to give, long after this world.
'We could not raise our own Abdullah. So we resolved, instead, to help raise a thousand.'
That resolve became Sukun Islamic School — a place dedicated to his memory, and to every child who now walks through its doors carrying a small piece of that promise.

Sukun Islamic School Is Born
Sukun Islamic School opened its doors as the Islamic English Medium wing of ABC International School — built specifically around that promise, combining a genuine Cambridge curriculum with daily Hifzul Qur'an, Aqeedah and Arabic from the very first year.
A Growing Family
Today, Sukun Islamic School serves students from Playgroup through to Grade VI in Lalbagh. Each new admission is, in its own small way, a continuation of the promise that began this school — another child raised, Insha'Allah, upon knowledge, character and the love of Allah.
The Meaning of 'Sukun'
In Arabic, sukūn describes a particular kind of stillness — not emptiness or inactivity, but the deep calm that settles over a heart at rest. It is the quiet that follows certainty; the peace that comes from knowing one is exactly where one ought to be.
This word shares its root with sakīnah, the tranquillity the Qur'an describes descending upon the hearts of the believers. We did not choose this name lightly. We chose it as a standard to hold ourselves to — that a child should feel calm, safe and settled the moment they step onto our campus.
هُوَ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ السَّكِينَةَ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِيمَانًا مَّعَ إِيمَانِهِمْ

Faithful adherence to the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah, as understood by the earliest and best generations — with no space left for religious innovation, however well-intentioned.

Mercy as method, not just sentiment. A child is corrected the way the Prophet ﷺ corrected — with patience, dignity and hope for who they can become.
إتقانItqan
Excellence treated as an act of worship. We hold ourselves to a high standard in the classroom precisely because we believe doing so pleases Allah.
يَا بُنَيَّ أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَانْهَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا أَصَابَكَ

Our School Philosophy
This verse is our model for tarbiyah. Not a list of rules handed down coldly, but wisdom passed on patiently, from someone who loves the child, to the child. We see every student as an amanah — a trust placed in our hands for a season — and we take the same approach Luqman took with his own son: instruction paired with warmth, correction paired with patience, and worship placed at the very centre of a child's character, long before it is placed in a textbook.
